Seamoss and the Dr. Sebi Food List will provide you with all the minerals you need to be your healthiest self!
We first discovered Sea Moss, often referred to as Irish Moss, while researching the work of Dr. Sebi, a prominent Honduran herbalist. It was being used to thicken smoothies and nut milks, and even in custardy desserts. We’re such super nutrition nerds that we knew we had to look into this amazing sea vegetable. There turned out to be a lot more than meets the eye!
Sea Moss (also known as Irish Moss) is nature's only plant based source of thyroid hormones. Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped organ located in your neck that regulates how you absorb nutrients. A properly functioning thyroid helps support a healthy metabolism, a strong cardiovascular system, and normal development during early life.
The two main hormones produced by the thyroid are triiodothyronine (T3), and thyroxine (T4). T3 breaks down into a compound called di-iodothyronine, which is found in abundance in brown sea moss. Sea moss also contains small amounts of T3 and T4, as well as nutrients like selenium and iodine that are critical for thyroid function. This little plant packs a big punch!
Sea Moss is also jam-packed full of potassium. Although potassium is necessary for your cells to function, the human body doesn’t store it, so potassium levels must be regularly replenished by sources of potassium in your diet. Adding high-potassium foods like Sea Moss to your diet can significantly improve behaviour and mental functioning (especially for children with ADHD!). It’s also helpful for fibromyalgia, moodiness, agitation, depression and anxiety disorders. This food is like a warm cup of tea and a good book by the fire for the nervous system. If all that isn’t enough, Sea Moss contains algin,a phytonutrient has that therapeutic value as a heavy metal detoxifying agent - meaning it helps pull toxic heavy metals (that can be dangerous to the nervous system) out of our tissues.
Sea Moss is a natural way to help relieve and prevent symptoms of colds and flus. Along with being a source of antimicrobial and antiviral compounds, it also contains potassium chloride, a nutrient that helps fight congestion. Hello, natural cough syrup! Sea moss can help relieve symptoms like:
There are so many health benefits to Sea Moss that we don’t have room to list them all! If you want some extra support for your thyroid, neurological function, or immune system, you might want to consider adding Sea Moss to your nutrition plan.
